'STILL AGITATED' - 13/02/2016
'Still Agitated' is a conceptual improvisation by Todd Anderson-Kunert, requiring five drummers and five noiseicians to surround the edges of the room, and follow simple visual and audible directives as they spread from one performer to the next.
Drummers:
Joe Talia
Nat Grant
Llara Goodall
Leo Kavanagh
Michael McNab
Noisicians:
Todd Anderson-Kunert
CiarĂ¡n Geoghegan
Carey Knight
Mark Groves
Spasmoslop
Evening also includes supporting sets from:
Xenosine
The Vainglories
$10 Entry.
NOTE: I'm not entirely sure how much room is left in Conduit Arts Initiative after we fill it with five drum kits and five amplifiers / noise rigs, but the venue was chosen for its potential intimacy and intensity.
-------------------------------------
Thanks Todd AK and Conduit! This should be real cool... it's kinda like a human feedback loop laser beam going around until we melt the floor. Some really sick players in this and I'm thrilled to be laser beaming with them.. and the only idiot using a performing name!

Last weeks' gigs
Forgot to post about these last week... good gigs! Thanks to everyone involved!
The final Make It Up Club for 2015 features a motley crew of fourteen fine representatives from the myriad of Melbournian musicians who have bestowed the Club with aleatoric delights this year, congregating from their respective corners of the sonoverse to mutually revel in the splendour of spontaneous collaboration. Drawing on Annalee Koernig’s curatorial tactic for the Stutter Big Band of smashing together disparate improvisers adept at sensitive auditory engagement, participants from the new garde to the OG MIUC posse will utilise string, skin, wind and things to transmute slivers of mangled jazz, exquisite contemporary classical, brutal shitcore, lush drone, delectable noise, ecstatic psychedelia and boyzIImencore into a capriciously complex sonic entity attesting to the rich intricacy of our fertile local sonic terrain. There will be three sets of approximately 20 minutes length and no further imposed parameters, because improvisation and sonic liberation are awesome.
• MIUC Big Band featuring:
Dave Brown (Strings)
Alex Garsden (Strings)
Lizzy Welsh (Strings)
Sean Baxter (Percussion)

Aviva Endean (Reeds)
Lloyd Honeybrook (Reeds)

SETE STAR SEPT + SPASMOSLOP video
Been real slack with the blog for a while... so here's a fun video of a collab I did with SETE STAR SEPT when they toured in 2013... this is almost the full set - the shortest set I've ever played.
Mega cheers as always to Brendan/Kingbean for filming and uploading!

Collab with Vijay Thillaimuthu @ MIUC - 25/02/2014
This installment of Make It Up Club is a selection of brutalissimo sound purveyors lurking across thresholds of various soundworlds in the electronic crud-smeared underbelly of Melbourne's DIY noise arena. With a unifying love of suffocating densities and sublime reverberant immersion, Vijay Thillaimuthu's high-ish electrowizardry aesthetic and Nik Kennedy's low-ish scumcore sonic strategy render such descriptive dichotomies utterly irrelevant. Wikipedia defines Nathan Gray as an artistic standard that describes a protocol, digital interface and connectors capable of manipulating a variety of electronic musical instruments, computers and other aleatoric sources into connecting and communicating with one another. And the post-grim powered electronics of CiarĂ¡n Geoghegan will be wilfully smashed into the robust industrial-strength ambience borne of Todd Anderson-Kunert's electric assemblage, in a supercollision of extreme frequencies.
•Vijay Thillaimuthu (Electronics) & Nik Kennedy (Voice, Clarinet, Electronics)

BLACK MARKET June 2011 program
Black Market continues at a new venue with more excellent line-ups. Most of the shows for this month have been "guest-curated", including the 29th which I put together, eyyyyyy. I'm fuggin stoked for this line-up so here's some more info:
- HOLY BONER + ROBBIE AVENAIM - ultra blastbeat mania improv noisecore set with Brad (drums), Nik (vocals/electronics) & Robbie (drums and robo-drums)
- DIE PIGEON DIE - disgusting, filthy, ultra-heavy goregrind with Jack (guitar/gurgles), Leo (bass/gurgles) & Christoph (drums)
- NATASHA ANDERSON - spine-tingling noisescapes using computer manipulation of custom-made block flute/periscope of dooooom
- WANKO SPECIAL - debut solo performance of Yuka Discobeans! I have no idea what to expect, except that it will be cool as
Can't wait!

FUCKED @ The Tote 20/03/11
"Many in Melbourne first witnessed the power of Defektro Live at KTL (Featuring Stephen O'Malley of SUNN O))) in June 2008. And it has been a long long wait for his return.
In the time between, "Metal_And_Bone_Servitude", a studio collaboration between Defektro and The Bastard Noise was released, selling out almost instantly and becoming a cult hit with lovers of noise worldwide.
Formed in Tokyo, Japan in 1995 as a three piece industrial/noise unit, Defektro is currently the one man operation of Hirofumi Uchino and based in Sydney.
Hirofumi is known and respected worldwide as much for the instruments and effects pedals he builds as the extreme forms of music he creates with them.
Live performances from this truly unique artist are all too rare. It is with great honour that WeEmptyRooms is able to present this event with such a quality lineup at one of Melbourne's greatest live venues.
Also WeEmptyRooms will be doing some killer deals on all label stock and distro at the mercy desk so vinyl lovers bring ya dosh."

RCKTSRGRY @ Make It Up Club - 15/03/11
Breath and the occult art of the ancient XYZ coordinate radiomap feature in this week's concert. Sydney voice artist Tony Osborne returns with his extended, jumbled and reconfigured explorations of the possibilities of vocal enunciation and (in)communicative action. RCKTSRGRY make a rare appearance that expands the limits of the space/time/sound intra-dimension. And the raw power of really smooth screeching/howling by local voice-master, Shane Van Den Akker.
• MADHEAD AKA Tony Osborne (Syd) (solo vocals and electronics)
• RCKTSRGRY featuring Nik Kennedy (adapted instruments and electronics) and Tina Douglas (hacked'n'cracked wiimote)
• Shane Van Den Akker (voice)

Discobeans March!
Discobeans monthly gig #2!! This one is looking like a cracker with another nice varied line-up. I think this will be the 2nd Ove-Naxx show since he moved to Melbourne from Osaka, and I'm especially stoked to finally see Liam Haryono's (from Psychward Cult / Pathetic Human / Flesh World etc) Tea & Sympathy Symphony solo project for the first time.
The February gig was really great - big turnout and very solid performances all round. Thanks to everyone that came down. I took this crappy pic of Clickjaw's set on my phone:
Laptops/Nintendo Wii controller/interactive visuals/voice combo was intense and had the audience completely entranced, especially during the squirm-inducing webcam transfusion finale which left everyone speechless and in a gloriously uncomfortable silence when the set ended. A magic moment!
