This was gonna be an Umbilical Tentacle gig but Brad couldn't do it so hey, new band - TELEPORTER. I've been jamming various psychedelic-y, noisy sounds with Matt for a while now but for this gig I'll be playing bass/electronics and processing the drum kit in an attempt to bend time, amongst other things. The collab at the end should be huuuuuuge too, can't wait.

Thanks once again to Piers Morgan for organising these monthly gigs. The dark GB basement on a Saturday arvo is a perfect scenario for noisemusics!!

DEER HEAD APPARITION @ Musikunst - 31/08/2013

This month MUSIKUNST welcomes the curatorship of the Deer Head Apparition team to the basement in a collective free-for-all in their typical fashion/tradition.

Deer Head Apparition is a no core member, no exclusions music collective that meets periodically to fill a moment in time with their combined vision of sometimes noisy, sometimes psychedelic, always experimental musically sonic forces.

As always, everyone welcome to participate, 'talent' and 'musical ability' not necessary or encouraged. The gig will be 'electric' so bring something noisy or bangy or amped. There will hopefully be a few spots to plug in to the PA but if anyone has small mixers that we can use to expand available slots for people and spare microphones this would be very appreciated!

Performance time will run from 4 - 7 pm and entry is free this month in keeping with DHA tradition

DISCOBEANS SUNDAY - 11/08/2013

SUNDAY IS THE NEW MONDAY

+ BLEACH BOYS
Black hol(e)istic incarnations of tape machine witchcraft
http://bleachboys.bandcamp.com/

+ BISON GRASS
Bison Grass is the metaphysical vehicle for local mystic, improviser and astral traveler Aaron Wallace. Amateur harmonic chanting and steel strings nourished by a deep love and respect for Eastern blues hybrids and American minimalist Raga worship.
http://bisongrass.bandcamp.com/

+ KUNIYA HIDEKI
One of a very small collective of artists shaking things up in the bubble era city of Miyazaki, Kuniya Hideki's solo and collaborative work is finally starting to turn heads. Having recently shared the stage with underground folk legend Kan Mikami as well as putting out a bunch of quality self produced releases, it's fair to say this young man from the deep south is on a roll. His current live set involves a series of reinterpreted Japanese folk tunes liberally dosed with reverb and a romanticism for the Nippon that once was. His first international show is one that is not to be missed!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrwgUWNDr2Q

+ SYMPATHIA
Man vs. Electricity vs. Speakers vs. Microphones vs. Feedback vs. Feedback vs. Feedback vs. Feedback vs. Feedback vs. Feedback vs. Universe
https://soundcloud.com/sympathia

+ GURNER
Emma Albury (Eko Eko Azarak/Yolk Yolk/ex-Leopard Leg), Sharryn Koppens (Dick Threats) and Fjorn Butler (Oranj Punjabi/N3 Warriors) are Gurner. This trio’s dense washes of looping rhythm are assembled from an amalgamation of digital and analogue electronics. A singular language of shared fixations, plundered fragments and individual input emerges during live performances.

AS YET UNNAMED GALAXY @ Longplay - 20/07/2013

AYUG = Trio with Tina Douglas and Phillip Holquinn. First gig under our new name. Thanks to Scott/Abre Ojos for organising!
----
A night of welcome returns - a welcome to Steve Law being back behind the banks of analogue modular equipment and a welcome return to Longplay on St Georges Road - refurbished, refined, rewired.

De-Light brings together the cream of resident Melbournian ambient experimentalists for a night of audio-visual experiences.

Steve Law - Steve Law has been producing electronic music in Australia since the early 1980's. During that time he has gained a reputation as one of Australia's foremost electronic artists, creating and performing music in almost every sub-genre that has been spawned over the past couple of decades.
After exploring many areas of electronic experimentation with the groups Guild of Fire, Foil and various solo projects, Steve formed the techno project Zen Paradox in 1992. The debut album "Eternal Brainwave" was immediately signed to Ollie Olsen's new Psy-Harmonics label, and licensed to KK/Nova Zembla in Europe and Restless in the U.S. to critical acclaim, and was a huge success. Steve went on to release further material under the Zen Paradox banner during the nineties, backed up with extensive and successful overseas tours. He was named best live electronic act at the 2000 Australian Live Music Awards.
In the meantime, Steve Law continued to explore other areas of cutting edge music, and was awarded the inaugral ABC classic FM computer music award in 1996 for his electro-acoustic composition "Urbania". He has composed music for film, dance and various multi-media works, and has contributed to the Fringe, Next Wave, Experimenta, Electrofringe, Liquid Architecture, Articulating Space, Make it Up Club and Melbourne International Animation festivals.
Steve has collaborated with many other local and international artists, both live and in the studio, and has continued to release music on various labels around the world. He is an inspired live performer, regularly doing impromptu live improvisations with many of Melbourne's underground musicians. He is also a member of the Melbourne band Black Cab.

NOISE FLASH @ Botanic Gardens 07/04/2013

the plan:
a large group of noise/experimental audio performers to descend upon melbourne’s botanical gardens for a live daytime performance.

how we plan to get away with it:
the group will perform using battery powered silent intruments (laptops, pedals, circuit bent toys, etc). the audio will be broadcast using radio transmitters.

how the audience will experience the performance:
by bringing along a fm receiver (walkman, transitor radio, anything that recieves FM radio), audience members will tune into the radio signal. performers will be set up along a pre-plannmed route. by walking along the performance route, each audience member will dictate their own experience by the speed of their journey and physical location.
