ORANJ PUNJABI
Is a sound and performance project of Fjorn Butler using no-input, tape and tape player sounds and found object manipulation. Psychedelic sludge mixed with library recordings of body noise.
LP HOVERCRAFT
One man lost in the PAL cosmos, finding his way through black holes and fragmented signals, he adjusts luminance and chrominance to weave video feedback and looped radio transitions in order to try and find a new path back to earth, that is if the space madness doesn’t get him first.
END OF THE FUCKING UNIVERSE
Farewell your loved ones. Cosmos-destroying harshnoise beats, black hole subsonic voids and death bellows of the apocalypse. Libido Airbag gets arsefucked by Arse Destroyer.

THE SWAMP WITH STRINGS & PERCUSSION @ MIUC - 27/09/11
One of the most mind-blowing performances at MIUC earlier this year was The Swamp, a conceptual improvisation by Nik Kennedy featuring four grindcore vocalists utilising heavily processed voices through massive speakers. For this reprise, The Swamp is augmented by master junk percussion from Nat Grant and MV, and the grimcore cello aktions of Judith Hamann. And, a double treat from the North: No Anchor, Brisbane's finest no-core punknik's in extreme free improv mode, and the electroacoustic genius of Joe Musgrove, 1 half of internationally renowned audio-video abstraktionists, Botborg.
+ The Swamp with strings and percussion, featuring: Brad Smith (vocals and electronics), Zev Langer (vocals and electronics), Jack Whitcroft (vocals and electronics), Nik Kennedy (vocals, bog sounds and electronics), Judith Hamann (cello), Maya-Victoria (percussion) and Nat Grant (percussion)
+ No Anchor (BRIS), featuring: Alex Gillies (drumkit), Donovan Miller (bass) and Ian Rogers (bass)

SPASMOSLOP (without) MILITARY POSITION @ Make It Up Club - 20/09/11
Melbourne art-punk, Harriet Morgan, has been collaborating with Nik Kennedy for some time now, and their musical communication has become empathic. Employing sub bass drones and processes voice, the group creates whirlwinds of noise. Wank Bank is the new shitcore project started by Tommy Gunn, and promises faux goregrind, improvised toilet noise. And master experimental percussionist, Robbie Avenaim returns to Melbourne for a rare solo treat. A night of intense, shitcore inspired, avant improv.
- Military Position vs. Spasmoslop, AKA: Harriet Morgan (bass/electronics) Nik Kennedy (vocals/electronics)
- Wank Bank, featuring: Stewart Cole (pitch shifted vocals), Tommy Miller (drumkit) and Michael Bugsy (abused guitar)

SPASMOSLOP/CANDLESNUFFER collab @ Make It Up Club - 13/09/11
This week sees the continuation of our profile of Nik Kennedy in a collaboration with Dave Brown. This performance focuses on Kennedy's use of home-made instruments, employing metal, breath, hydrophonics and effects, with Brown in full, macrosonic Candlesnuffer mode. Axximilation is a raw analogue duo featuring two young women who consistently impress with their novel deconstructions of punk-inspired improv. And Sydney-based experimental musician, Sam Pettigrew features in a duo with Ben Byrne, incorporating bass and laptop in an empathic improvised musique concrete milieu.
- Nik Kennedy (sub bass processed voice, homemade instruments, electronics and effects) and Dave Brown (macrosonically effected electric guitar)
- Axximilation, featuring: Pandie Panther and Battle Pussy (drum kit, voice, tapes, laptop and distortion)
- Ben Byrne (laptop and electronics) and Sam Pettigrew (SYD) (bass and electronics)

MILITARY POSITION/SPASMOSLOP @ State of Decay - 10/09/11
CHAPMAN & BAILEY GALLERY - JOINTHASSLES & HELEN HUGHES - STATE OF DECAY
10 September – 1 October
A group show curated by Helen Hughes & Harriet Morgan
Opening Saturday 10 September 3:00-5:00pm
Opening Saturday 10 September 3:00-5:00pm
STATE OF DECAY looks at the literal and metaphoric concept of deterioration within life and imagery. The ever-impending feeling of both existing and ending, and the effect we have on the all the elements that go together to make the world we live in. The artists involved all differently communicate this aesthetic or ideology, displaying their thoughts on decomposition, mortality, decay and adverse experimentation within their visual and audio practices, whilst also simultaneously communicating how a human might feel, operating on a day-to-day basis- within this decaying and rotting earth.
STATE OF DECAY embodies the conscious & unconscious impact of living, the outcome of death, the emotional mindset associated with it all & the visual effects that fading, ageing, rotting, wear, time or hand can have on an image and the mind.
The exhibition runs from 10th September to 1st October 2011
Stewart Cole / Marco Fusinato / Mark Groves / Blake Hesken / Christopher L G Hill / Luke Holland / Tom Miller / Harriet Morgan / John Nixon / Alex Vivian

UMBILICAL TENTACLE @ Make It Up Club - 06/09/11
September sees a month of shows featuring Nik Kennedy, one of Melbourne's most exciting and inventive noise improvisers in four unique combinations. For his first performance, he is joined by long-time collaborators, Yuka Mikayama and Brad Smith in a chaotic, ecstatic and joyfully stupid project of partynoisecoremania. Sam Dunscombe convenes a trio of very recent group explorations into the “labyrinthine dungeons” of MaxMSP audio coding language (as he refers to it). Along with Jess Pinney and Kim Tan, the trio juxtaposes the warm and the cold, the fake and the real, the abstracted and the empathic, the clinical and the emotional potentials of this amazing digital tool. And, with immense pleasure, we welcome cornetist Felicity Provan back to Melbourne for a brief visit from her home in the Netherlands. A champion of abstract improv, free and modern jazz in Melbourne during the 80s and 90s, she is joined by Dutch colleague, improv legend and current Australian resident, Cor Fuhler.
• Umbilical Tentacle featuring: Yuka Mikayama (vocals and electronics), Nik Kennedy (vocals and electronics) and Brad Smith (drumkit)
• Doom Cube, featuring: Samuel Dunscombe (MaxMSP), Jessica Pinney (MaxMSP), and Kim Tan (MaxMSP)

Dark tape sounds, manipulation and grimisms of the voice from Christopher L.G. Hill (KRYSTOFFKRVSTOFFISTON, MOFFARFARRAH, GUGG, GAUNTLET etc.) No porpoises will be harmed during this performance.
+ ERNIE ALTHOFF
Ernie Althoff has been performing experimental music in Melbourne for 33 years. The fact that some of his audience aren't even that old themselves indicates some kind of perseverance and/or survival skillbase that he sees as a good thing! He may bring some electrically powered music machines, and other assorted bits and pieces with which to do sonic things at table height.

BLACK MARKET June 2011 program
Black Market continues at a new venue with more excellent line-ups. Most of the shows for this month have been "guest-curated", including the 29th which I put together, eyyyyyy. I'm fuggin stoked for this line-up so here's some more info:
- HOLY BONER + ROBBIE AVENAIM - ultra blastbeat mania improv noisecore set with Brad (drums), Nik (vocals/electronics) & Robbie (drums and robo-drums)
- DIE PIGEON DIE - disgusting, filthy, ultra-heavy goregrind with Jack (guitar/gurgles), Leo (bass/gurgles) & Christoph (drums)
- NATASHA ANDERSON - spine-tingling noisescapes using computer manipulation of custom-made block flute/periscope of dooooom
- WANKO SPECIAL - debut solo performance of Yuka Discobeans! I have no idea what to expect, except that it will be cool as
Can't wait!
THE KILL did the USA
The Kill have just been on tour on the East Coast of USA playing Maryland Deathfest and a bunch of sweeeet shows in New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Washington DC and Philadelphia. There are already a few videos up on youtube:
And photos around if ya do a bit of searching. Thanks to the people who shot these and put them up. Super huge mega thanks to our driver and "cultural advisor" Jason Wade and everyone who helped organise stuff, let us crash at their house, fed us, attended to the shows, moshed up a storm and made us feel so welcome. Extra mondo ultra-brutal grinding thanks to the other bands we played with, especially our tour-mates Noisear and Shitstorm, who absolutely ripped arse every time they played, and our fellow Aussies in Doubed Over and Internal Rot. Mad holy-fuck-that-was-good thanks to Last Days of Humanity for blowing my balls off at MDF. It was my grind nerd dream come true to see these guys play! I might post more about all this later...

DISCOBEANS MONDAY - 6th June 2011
Another ripsnorter line-up, if I do say so myself. Can't wait to see Discobeans godmother Yuka's new duo collab with Mel Toxic Lipstick, and James Rushford/Jess Pinney/Simon Hanselmann's Tight Passage. "Sludgy Psych Shit" according to James. Bonza.
Couldn't be happier with how this series has been going so far. Thanks heaps to everyone that has played and attended these gigs! Onward!

SWEATMAN & KENNEDY INC. @ DISCOBEANS - 04/04/11
First time duo collab with one of my favourite Melbourne drummers Bryce Sweatman (Psychward Cult/Pathetic Human/Chrome Dome/The Zingers) - sweet! We've been jamming and recording some dark vibes lately using processed percussion/vocals/keyboard kinda shit. Also really looking forward to Harriet Morgan (Psychward Cult/Murgh'terr) playing solo under the highly enjoyable name Military Position.

FUCKED @ KIPL 28/03/11
Another Fucked gig next week!
"Globe-trotting glass eater Lucas Abela has made a career out of exploring the extreme side of sound. First it was with turntables attached to saw horses with sewing machine motors, briefly Freddy Krugger-styled record needle gloves, then it was a contact mic'd trampoline. For the last few years, under the guise of Justice Yeldham, it's been glass.
Starting each performance with a large sheet of glass, a contact mic and an array of effect pedals. Performances last as long as the glass can withstand the pressure of Mr Abela's face.
Sabbatical is proud to present this rare Justice Yeldham performance as Mr Abela stops over in Melbourne on his way to who knows where.
KIPL custodians and all-round excellent gents Wife will kick off proceedings, followed by the interminable noise assault of Fucked. Offering a welcome respite, Miles Brown & Shags Chamberlain will cleanse the aural palette with their theremin and synth explorations.
Finally, Justice Yeldham will perform on a couch. Seriously, that was his only rider request - a couch to perform on.
It's an early start for an early end. It is a Monday night after all.
